Hollywood is close to our base, so it's one of the easier places for us to get to the same day. The tricky part isn't the drive — it's parking and stairs. Beachwood Canyon and the Hollywood Dell have narrow winding streets, and many houses sit above or below the road with long stairways to the front door. We plan for that and bring what we need in one trip.
Most of the flatland housing is apartments. Around Franklin Village, Thai Town, and Little Armenia, you'll find 1920s courtyard buildings, Spanish bungalow courts, and post-war stucco boxes. A lot of those kitchens are original layouts with small sinks and cabinets that weren't designed for a disposal at all, so the unit was squeezed in later.
The hillside houses — Whitley Heights, Spaulding Square, the Dell, and up toward Mulholland — range from 1920s Mediterranean to mid-century post-and-beam. Those owners tend to keep a house for a long time, and it's common to find a disposal that's been running for fifteen-plus years.
