Garbage Disposal Repair in Inglewood — Same-Day When Possible

Inglewood has a lot of single-family housing that people have owned for decades. Morningside Park and the Inglewood Knolls are full of 1920s–1940s Spanish and Traditional houses with arched doorways and original tile in some kitchens. Fairview Heights and Century Heights have post-war bungalows and small ranch houses. North of Manchester and around Downtown there are many two-story apartment buildings and fourplexes.

With the stadium district and new development, Inglewood has also seen many homes sold, flipped, and rented in recent years. Flipped kitchens often get a cheap new disposal that was installed quickly. We see loose mounts, missing dishwasher knockouts, and traps assembled with the wrong slope.

Inglewood is a straightforward drive for us down the 110 or across on Slauson and La Brea, so same-day visits are often possible.

Many of the older Inglewood homes have original cast-iron drain lines under raised floors. The disposal connects to them through a trap that has often been replaced several times. We check that the connection at the wall is solid and the trap is correctly sloped before installing a new unit, because a disposal can't fix a drain that runs uphill.

Planes from LAX don't bother a disposal, but the vibration question does come up: loose mounting rings make a disposal noisy and eventually cause leaks at the flange. In flipped kitchens we often find the mounting ring wasn't fully tightened. Re-mounting it properly is a $99 repair.

We start with the cheapest possible fix. A silent disposal might only need its reset pressed; a humming one usually has a jam. Those are quick. A disposal that leaks from the housing, smells burnt, or keeps tripping its reset after being cleared has reached the end, and paying for repeat repairs doesn't make sense.

In flipped homes we sometimes find a nearly new disposal that was installed badly. In that case we don't replace it — we re-mount it, re-seal the flange, fix the dishwasher connection, and leave the owner a unit that should last for years.
